News Letter

Our regular monthly meeting will be held Sunday 2 PM, September 13, 1992 at 2412 C St. Meridian, MS.
We have finally set a permanent meeting schedule. We will meet at 2PM on the ssecond Sunday of each month, and at this location (2412 C St..).

Our fall "Show and Tell" is set for Oct. 30 and 31 at Village Fair Mall. We will be displaying a table full of working radios, and making literature (and membership forms) available to the shopping public. We can sure use some help, as the table will have to be manned at all times! Plan on helping out for an hour or two if you can! Should be fun!
Speaking of meets - the biggie of the year is later this month. If you can only make one of the "biggies this year - this is the biggie! See the coming events section for details. If you can't make it to New York, then next month has another goodie. The Vintage Radio and Phonograph Society, Inc. in association with the Antique Wireless Association is holding thier CONVETNTION '92 at the Holiday Inn, Dallas - Ft. Worth Airport South. We'll publish more details in the next newsletter.

Club membership cards are coming along - they serve more purposes than just an ID card. They are double the size of a credit card, so when folded they will fit nicely into a wallet. The face is the membership card for the club, the back has some interesting stuff, and inside contains a radio dating time-line that nails the date of a radio very quickly.
There are 5 items that lead to (usually) fairly quich and accurate dating:
1) Types of Tubes
2) Type of Cabinet
3) Type of Tuning dial(s)
4) Latest Patent listed
5) Listing in Riders or SAMS index
Using this time-line and comparing as many of these "items" as posible, you should be able to narrow a set's age pretty well. These membership cards will be available to club members in a few weeks.

Speaking of SAMs and other service data, Randy has acquired a large selection of SAMS and several Manufacturers original data sets. The SAMs start at 30 and go to 1000 with more than a few missing; particularly in the 235 - 280 range, and the 420 to 454 range. Keep your eyes open for these; it sure would be nice to fill in those missing ones!
Original service data now on hand:
Manufacturer From To
Crosley 1921 1943
General Electric 1939 1942
Motorola 1937 1942
Philco (Radio) 1946 1959
RCA (Radio) 1949 1966
Sparton Vol. 5 1946 1948
Zenith Vol. 1 1921 1940
See the Classified ads for Television & Riders. These are, as usual, available to all members for use.
A new (sort of) business has opened in Meridian - Radio Renaissance. It's just me doing my usual, but as business has increased, we formalized the critter to keep the Bureaucrats happy.

Book Corner.
The new Bunis Book is in stock - It is WELL worth it's $17.95(+tx) price. Very nicely done, prices are pretty much what we expected - all up! Pictures are quite good, and almost no repeats from the previous edition.

There is a new book out that supposedly lists all of the models pictured in some 24 "popular collector's books." We are trying to find our more about that one.

Johnson's new edition is due out in a couple of weeks - taking orders now...

We have had a few inquiries about membership lately, but no one joining. Keep putting the word out, folks!
Until next time - Keep those Golden Throats singing - and the Magic Alive.
